Create and manage an organization
Organizations give a group of people a shared place to collaborate on chats and projects. What you can change depends on your role: an Admin manages the organization, while a Member can review the organization and their own membership.
Create an organization
Section titled “Create an organization”-
Open your account menu and select Organizations.
-
Start the organization:
- If you see No organizations yet, enter a name in Organization name.
- If you already belong to an organization, select New organization, then enter a name in the New organization dialog.
Organization names must contain 4–18 characters.
-
Select Create for your first organization, or Create organization in the dialog.
Bearly opens the new organization’s Overview and marks you as an Admin. If New organization does not appear, your account cannot create another organization; ask an organization admin for help.
Open and understand an organization
Section titled “Open and understand an organization”Open your account menu, select Organizations, then select the organization name. The badge beside the page title shows whether you are an Admin or Member.
Every organization includes Overview, Members, and Groups. Administrators also see Policies and Activity. Billing appears when the organization can buy seats directly and does not already receive a plan through another arrangement. Additional sections may appear for some managed organizations.
The Overview shows the organization’s name and plan, plus its managed email domain when it has one. Administrators also see the member count, managed organization policy count, a shortcut to seat billing when it is available, and the organization’s Settings. They can also set an access banner that members must accept before using Bearly. On a managed organization, a Microsoft Entra section follows Settings for Microsoft sign-in and provisioning. Members instead see Your membership, including their role and assigned policy when one applies.
To move between organizations, select Organizations and choose another organization name.
Rename an organization
Section titled “Rename an organization”Only organization administrators can rename an organization.
- Open the organization and select Overview.
- Select the Rename organization pencil beside Organization name.
- Enter a name containing 4–18 characters.
- Select the check mark or press Enter to save. Select the X or press Esc to cancel.
If Bearly cannot save the change, the existing name remains in place. Try again before making other organization changes.
Request a managed organization
Section titled “Request a managed organization”An administrator of an eligible free organization may see Upgrade to Managed beside the plan.
- Select Upgrade to Managed.
- Choose Pro, Analyst, or Research under Plan.
- Optionally enter your organization’s email domain under Domain. If the request is approved with a managed domain, people using that domain are automatically added to the organization.
- Select Send Request.
After the request is sent, Request is being reviewed appears beside the plan. This is a request for Bearly to configure the organization; it does not change the plan immediately.
Leave an organization
Section titled “Leave an organization”Members of an unmanaged organization can leave it themselves:
- Open the organization and select Overview.
- Under Your membership, select Leave organization.
- Confirm Leave organization.
Leaving removes your organization membership and your access to its shared chats and projects. Members whose account is managed by the organization’s email domain cannot leave themselves; Overview identifies the domain managing their membership.
The last organization administrator cannot leave or remove their own membership. Make another member an organization administrator first.
Delete an organization
Section titled “Delete an organization”Only an administrator can delete a free, unmanaged organization. Managed organizations and organizations with a paid plan must be handled through Bearly Support.
-
Open the organization’s Overview and scroll to Settings.
-
Expand Delete organization.
-
Enter the exact organization name in both Confirm name and Confirm name again.
-
Select Delete organization.
Bearly returns you to Organizations after deletion. If the organization is managed or has a paid plan, the deletion form is replaced by instructions to contact support.
