# Create and manage a team

HTML: [https://bearly.ai/docs/teams/overview/](https://bearly.ai/docs/teams/overview/)

> Create a Bearly team, review its account details, rename it, leave it, or delete it when eligible.

Teams give a group of people a shared place to collaborate on chats and projects. What you can change depends on your role: an **Admin** manages the team, while a **Member** can review the team and their own membership.

## Create a team

1. Open your account menu and select **Teams**.

2. Start the team:

   - If you see **No teams yet**, enter a name in **Team name**.
   - If you already belong to a team, select **New Team**, then enter a name in the **New team** dialog.

Team names must contain 4–18 characters.

3. Select **Create** for your first team, or **Create team** in the dialog.

Bearly opens the new team's **Overview** and marks you as an **Admin**. If **New Team** does not appear, your account cannot create another team; ask a team admin for help.

## Open and understand a team

Open your account menu, select **Teams**, then select the team name. The badge beside the page title shows whether you are an **Admin** or **Member**.

Every team includes **Overview** and **Members**. Administrators also see **Policies**, **Activity**, and **Settings**. Additional sections may appear for some managed teams.

The **Overview** shows the team's name and plan, plus its managed email domain when it has one. Administrators also see counts for members, policies on a managed team, pending invites, and the plan. Members instead see **Your membership**, including their role and assigned policy when one applies.

To move between teams, select **Teams** and choose another team name.

## Rename a team

Only team administrators can rename a team.

1. Open the team and select **Overview**.
2. Select the **Rename team** pencil beside **Team name**.
3. Enter a name containing 4–18 characters.
4. Select the check mark or press <kbd>Enter</kbd> to save. Select the X or press <kbd>Esc</kbd> to cancel.

If Bearly cannot save the change, the existing name remains in place. Try again before making other team changes.

## Request a managed team

An administrator of an eligible free team may see **Upgrade to Managed** beside the plan.

1. Select **Upgrade to Managed**.
2. Choose **Pro**, **Analyst**, or **Research** under **Plan**.
3. Optionally enter your organization's email domain under **Domain**. If the request is approved with a managed domain, people using that domain are automatically added to the team.
4. Select **Send Request**.

After the request is sent, **Request is being reviewed** appears beside the plan. This is a request for Bearly to configure the team; it does not change the plan immediately.

## Leave a team

Members of an unmanaged team can leave it themselves:

1. Open the team and select **Overview**.
2. Under **Your membership**, select **Leave Team**.
3. Confirm **Leave Team**.

Leaving removes your team membership and your access to its shared chats and projects. Members whose account is managed by the team's email domain cannot leave themselves; **Overview** identifies the domain managing their membership.

## Delete a team

Only an administrator can delete a free, unmanaged team. Managed teams and teams with a paid plan must be handled through Bearly Support.

> **Danger**
> Deleting a team permanently deletes the team and all of its associated data. This cannot be undone.

1. Open the team and select **Settings**.

2. Under **Danger zone**, expand **Delete team**.

3. Enter the exact team name in both **Confirm name** and **Confirm name again**.

4. Select **Delete Team**.

Bearly returns you to **Teams** after deletion. If the team is managed or has a paid plan, the deletion form is replaced by instructions to contact support.
