Distribute skills from a shared folder

View as markdown

A skill store lets a managed team distribute approved Bearly skills from a shared folder. Administrators register the folder once, inspect the skills Bearly finds, and enable each skill on one or more team policies.

Members assigned to those policies must also be able to reach the shared folder from their computers. Before rollout, agree on a mounted location that is consistent for the team.

Prepare the team

  • Create at least one team policy. Skills are assigned through policies, not directly to individual members.
  • Put each ready-to-use skill in its own folder within the shared location. Bearly lists folders that contain a skill definition and groups them by their top-level folder.
  • Mount the shared drive on the administrator’s computer and on every member computer that should use the skills.

Add a skill store

  1. Open Bearly desktop, then select your account menu → Teams.
  2. Select the managed team and open Skills. The page heading is Skill stores.
  3. Under Add a skill store, select Shared folderChoose folder…, then choose the mounted folder.
  4. Enter a recognizable Store name, such as Editorial skills.
  5. Select Add Store.

Bearly confirms that the store was added, opens it, and reads the available skills. Register the shared root rather than a private copy on one person’s computer.

Assign skills to policies

  1. Select the store to expand it. Bearly shows Reading skills… while it checks the folder.
  2. Open a folder group, then review each skill’s name and description. A Python badge means the skill includes scripts and deserves the same review you would give other executable work.
  3. Under Enable on Policies, select a policy name to assign the skill. A checkmark marks an active assignment.
  4. Select the same policy again to remove that assignment.

The skill row reports Unassigned or how many policies currently use it. Policy members receive the assignment when Bearly can reach that shared store on their computer.

Remove a store

Select Remove store on the store row. Removing the registration also removes that store’s assignments from the team’s policies. It does not delete the shared folder or its files from the drive.

If the folder is only temporarily unavailable, leave the store registered and restore the drive connection instead of removing it.
