Project Documents

Project Documents allow you to upload files to a project that can be automatically referenced in chats belonging to that project. When you upload files to your project, they become instantly available as context for all conversations within that project.

How it Works

When you add documents to a project, Bearly automatically:

  • Extracts text content from various file types for search and analysis
  • Generates embeddings for semantic search capabilities
  • Processes file-specific content (code analysis, PDF text extraction, image recognition)
  • Stores analysis results for fast retrieval during conversations

Files are analyzed using multiple processing engines and the results are stored for future reference, making your documents instantly searchable and contextually relevant.

Supported File Types

Project Documents supports a wide variety of file formats:

  • Documents: PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx)
  • Text Files: TXT, Markdown (.md), CSV
  • Code Files: JavaScript, Python, TypeScript, and many more
  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP
  • Media: Audio and video files for transcription

You’ll see processing indicators next to files that are still being analyzed.

🚀 Using Your Documents for Research

Once you’ve uploaded documents to your project, you have two powerful ways to work with them:

Automatic Context in Project Chats

Your uploaded documents are automatically available in all chats within that project. The AI can reference document content, search across files, and answer questions based on your specific documents without any additional setup.

Advanced Document Research

Tip

Want detailed analysis with citations? Check out Document Research to learn how to upload documents directly to chat conversations and get detailed answers with precise citations linking back to the source material.

Key differences:

  • Project Documents (this page): Files uploaded to your project provide automatic context for all project chats
  • Document Research: Files uploaded to specific chats enable detailed Q&A with citations and source references

Example Use Cases

Research Projects

Upload research papers, company filings, and academic articles to create a comprehensive knowledge base for your project discussions.

Work Documentation

Add company policies, technical specifications, and project requirements to ensure consistent, accurate responses based on your organization’s information.

Personal Knowledge Base

Upload personal notes, bookmarks, and reference materials to build a searchable library for your projects.

Best Practices

  • Organize by project: Keep related documents together in the same project
  • Use descriptive filenames: Clear names make files easier to find and reference
  • Regular cleanup: Remove outdated or irrelevant files to keep your project focused
  • Monitor processing: Wait for files to finish processing for optimal search results

Project Documents transform your uploaded files into an intelligent, searchable knowledge base that enhances every conversation in your project.
