Image Editing

Bearly’s image editing allows you to modify images using simple text instructions. Unlike inpainting (which requires selecting specific areas), this feature lets you describe changes in plain English, and the AI understands which parts of the image to modify.

How Editing Works

With editing, you can:

  1. Select any image in your chat
  2. Provide a text prompt describing what changes you want
  3. The AI interprets your instructions and applies the edits automatically

Editing an Image

Upload an image or select an existing one in your chat.

Click on any image that has already been generated or uploaded in your chat.

Select an image

Enter your edit instructions

Type a clear description of what changes you want to make to the image. No need to highlight areas - just describe what you want.

Example instructions:

Make this in the style of a studio ghibli movie
Add a unicorn to the left side of the image
Change the background to a sunset beach
Make the sky more dramatic with storm clouds
Add a birthday cake on the table

Edit instructions

Submit Review the result

The AI will process your instructions and determine what parts of the image to modify based on your description.

The edited image will appear in your chat with your requested changes applied. You can make additional edits by repeating the process.

Tips for Effective Editing

  • Be specific and descriptive: “Add a small brown dog in the bottom right corner” works better than “add a dog”
  • Use clear positioning terms: Mention “left,” “right,” “top,” “background,” etc. to indicate where changes should happen
  • Describe the desired style: Include details about colors, sizes, and artistic styles
  • Reference existing elements: “Make the car red instead of blue” helps the AI understand what to modify
  • One edit at a time: For complex changes, make a series of smaller edits rather than one complex request

When to Use Editing vs. Inpainting

  • Use editing when:

    • You want simple additions or changes
    • You don’t need pixel-perfect control over where changes happen
    • You’re making general modifications that the AI can easily understand
  • Use inpainting when:

    • You need to modify very specific areas
    • You want complete control over exactly which pixels are changed
    • You’re making detailed, precise edits that require manual selection

Technical Details

This feature uses OpenAI’s GPT-Image model, which combines visual understanding with processing to interpret your instructions and apply appropriate changes. The AI:

  1. Analyzes the entire image to understand its content
  2. Interprets your text instructions to determine what needs to be changed
  3. Identifies which areas should be modified based on your description
  4. Generates a new version that incorporates your requested changes
  5. Maintains consistency in style, lighting, and composition
