# Share a project with your team

Project collaboration lets a group work from the same chats, files, and shared project settings. You can share only with teams you belong to and people listed in those teams.

## Share the project

You must be a project owner and belong to at least one team. Your organization may disable project collaboration.



1. Expand the project in the chat sidebar and select **Settings**.
2. In **Collaboration**, select **Share**.
3. To share with everyone on a team, choose a role from the selector on that team's row.
4. To share with particular people, select the **Show members** chevron for the team, then choose a role beside each person.
5. Select **Done** when the access list is correct.



The project status changes from **Private** to **Shared**, and a people icon appears beside the project in the sidebar. Return to the same section and select **Manage** whenever you need to review access.

If no teams are available, create or join a team before sharing the project.

## Choose an access level

The role selector offers four levels:

- **No Access** — removes access granted directly through that team or person.
- **Reader** — can view the project and participate in its existing chats.
- **Writer** — has Reader access and can start chats, add or remove project files, change shared chat settings, and manage project Skills when allowed.
- **Owner** — has full project control, including sharing, password protection, renaming, and deletion.

> **Caution**
> Give **Owner** access sparingly. An owner can change other people's access and permanently delete the project.


A person can receive access from both a team and an individual assignment. Selecting **No Access** on one row removes that assignment; it does not cancel access they still receive through another team or owner role.

## Work in a shared project

Shared project behavior depends on the role:

- **Shared Project Settings** contain defaults for everyone. Writers and owners can change them; Readers cannot.
- **Personal Chat Settings** let each collaborator set their own unlocked preferences without changing the shared defaults.
- Project files in **Docs & Data** are available to all collaborators. Writers and owners can add and remove them unless an organization policy prevents it.
- A password-protected project still requires its project password after it is locked. Share that password through an appropriate secure channel, separate from Bearly.

If a role update fails, Bearly leaves an error in the collaboration panel. Try again; if it continues, confirm you are still a project owner and that the teammate still belongs to one of your teams.
