# Check weather, alerts, air quality, and pollen

Ask Bearly about the weather for a place and it answers with current data: conditions right now, an hourly or daily forecast, active public weather alerts, air quality, pollen, or the weather on past dates. Most answers include a card with the numbers.

Weather works in Bearly chats on the web, desktop, iOS, and Android, on every plan. It is not available to scheduled [Routines](https://bearly.ai/docs/features/routines.md). Team administrators can turn it off with the **Weather** [team policy](https://bearly.ai/docs/teams/policies.md).

## Ask about the weather

Ask in ordinary language and name the place, or ask about where you are.

Bearly uses Weather on its own when a question needs it. To make sure it does, type `/weather` and select **Weather** under **Research**.

Temperatures and speeds use Fahrenheit and miles per hour unless you ask for metric units. Results are in English.

## What you can ask for

| Ask for | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| **Current conditions** | A **Current conditions** card with the temperature, what it feels like, the conditions, and the chance of rain, wind, humidity, and UV index. |
| **An hourly forecast** | Up to 10 days ahead. The card shows 24 hours at a time in the place's local time; ask for more and Bearly continues. |
| **A daily forecast** | Up to 10 days, each with the conditions, chance of rain, and the high and low. |
| **Weather alerts** | Active official warnings that cover the place, with their severity, area, description, and when each expires. The card shows up to five alerts. |
| **Air quality** | The current air quality index and its category, the main pollutant, and pollutant levels. You can also ask for a forecast up to 96 hours ahead or readings from the last 30 days. |
| **Pollen** | Grass, tree, and weed pollen levels for up to five days. |
| **Past weather** | Daily weather for a date range of up to a year, hourly weather for up to 31 days, or up to 20 separate dates. Bearly answers in the reply without a card. |

Bearly checks for alerts when you ask about warnings or safety, or when the forecast points to a clear hazard. It does not check alerts with every forecast, so ask directly when it matters.

## How Bearly uses your location

When you name a place, Bearly uses it. When you ask about where you are, Bearly asks your device for its location first, so your device or browser may ask for permission. If your device's location isn't available, Bearly estimates an approximate location from your network connection, which sends your public IP address to a location service, and tells you which area it used. If that's wrong, reply with the city you mean.

The place Bearly used, with its coordinates, becomes part of the chat's results, like any other result.

## Limits

- A card shows the weather when it was fetched and doesn't update. Ask again for a newer reading.
- Alerts, air quality, and pollen aren't available everywhere. When a place isn't covered, Bearly says so.
- Each lookup uses your plan allowance. Past weather for separate dates counts each date as its own lookup.

## If Weather can't answer

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Weather is unavailable for that location. Try a nearby city.** | Ask for the nearest larger city. |
| **Weather could not use those request details. Check the location or time window.** | Name the place more precisely, or shorten the time range. |
| **Weather is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.** | Wait a few minutes and ask again. |
| **Weather could not complete that request. Check the location and time window.** | Check the place and dates. If you've used your plan allowance, this can also appear until it renews. |
| `/weather` doesn't appear | On a managed account, ask an administrator whether the **Weather** policy is on. |
